About Us Troop 63 started in 1917, and over the past decade and beyond, more than 100 of our scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout. We've had 50 of these scouts attain Eagle in the last 20 years, with many more along the way. With over 50 scouts and 30 leaders, Troop 63 can safely ensure a robust scouting experience.
Troop 63 loves camping, so we do a lot of it. Earlier this spring, 24 scouts traveled to the Florida Keys for the Sea Base program, where they lived on a sailboat for a week sailing, fishing, snorkeling and having lots of fun. This summer, 14 scouts went to the Floodwood Mountain Reservation in the Adirondack Mountain Range for a week-long canoe trek in the wilderness. Here, they canoed over 50 miles, portaged, and endured a huge thunderstorm. Also this summer, 32 scouts went to a week-long summer camp in the Poconos where they earned over 150 merit badges. But this isn't all. This year, we have 12 weekend campouts planned in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. These shorter trips consist of adventures like canoeing, kayaking, backpacking, hiking and more. We also have meetings each month. Some include the entire troop, others focus on a specific skill for a small group, and some are for merit badges. We totally understand how busy scouts are with sports, academics, the arts and more, so there is no pressure regarding attendance. Scouts have the freedom to attend or not attend as many events as they wish. One of the reasons Troop 63 has so many Eagle Scouts is that they stick with it. We strike a good balance of fun times and the trail to Eagle. All the time, preparing scouts for life in ways that their peers do not experience. |
